Our executive director, Dr. Michael Jacobson, and key ISLG staff lead the course, Public and Social Policy Development, Analysis, and Evaluation, at the CUNY Graduate Center to provide CUNY students with an overview of public policy development, implementation, and evaluation in real-world settings. It draws on local and national examples from the work of ISLG.

During the course, students develop a foundational knowledge of public policy by fostering an understanding of how public policy is developed, analyzed, and evaluated. We discuss the formal and informal policymaking process with particular attention to how reforms can be proposed and implemented in what have become deeply politicized and resource constrained environments. We focus on the translation of research into policy and practice, the importance of relationship building, and the role of fiscal constraints in state and local decision-making.
