Diana Spahia is a Senior Research Associate working on a variety of research projects at CUNY ISLG, including leading and collaborating on qualitative work in addition to supporting grants management and coordination for the Safety and Justice Challenge (SJC). Diana has over fifteen years of experience conducting and supporting criminal justice research projects including building a media and terrorism database, media content analyses, research on United Nation's initiatives, and gendered perspectives of terrorism. Prior to joining the team at CUNY ISLG, Diana was a faculty member at John Jay College of Criminal Justice for nearly a decade and taught courses in the areas of research methods, sociology, and international criminal justice. Diana also served as the Research Manager on the Pretrial Justice team at Arnold Ventures where she worked to develop and drive research agendas, review research proposals, and manage research grants. As a lifelong supporter and advocate of the CUNY system, Diana received her Ph.D. in Criminal Justice: Policy, Oversight & Administration at the City University of New York/John Jay College of Criminal Justice, a master's degree in Philosophy at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, a master's degree in International Crime & Justice at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, and a bachelor's degree in International Criminal Justice from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. On her free time, Diana enjoys play time with her family and pets including a colorful parrot and two pugs, spending time outside in nature, and discovering new approaches to exercise and fitness.
