Valeria Guzmán is a Policy Associate at ISLG, where she supports community safety, violence reduction, and criminal justice reform initiatives. Her work focuses on policy research and analysis, program strategy, and strategic engagement with government and community partners. She also supports capacity building and technical assistance for nonprofit providers and community-based organizations working on public safety and community well-being.
Prior to joining ISLG, Valeria worked at Interpeace, where she supported research and evaluation for a multi-stakeholder participatory research project that assessed key sources of fragility and resilience within conflict- or violence-prone countries. She also served as a Program Officer at CAMBA Legal Services, coordinating housing justice programs and providing legal aid and advocacy on behalf of communities facing housing insecurity in New York City. Earlier in her career, she worked in Colombia's Vice-Presidency and Congress, supporting policy implementation of the Peace Agreements and legislative strategy around justice and institutional reform.
Valeria holds a dual Bachelor's in Law and Political Science from Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia, and a Master of Public Administration from Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs. Outside of work, she can be found riding her bike through Brooklyn, catching live music, or exploring a new museum exhibit.
