JTI Hosts: CSG: Statewide Correctional Initiatives: Supporting Children with Incarcerated Parents

The Council of State Governments (CSG) Justice Center helps leaders in every state make communities safer and healthier. By combining trusted data, practical strategies, and cross-systems collaboration, we create second chances, reduce harm, and transform lives. We help state, local, and community leaders in all three branches of government and practitioners across the country identify and implement data-driven solutions for complex justice challenges. The report highlights statewide efforts to support children with incarcerated parents by strengthening coordination across corrections, child welfare, and community-based services. It emphasizes the importance of maintaining family connections, improving communication between systems, and implementing policies that prioritize the well-being of children and caregivers. By promoting family-centered practices and cross-agency collaboration, these initiatives aim to reduce negative outcomes for children, support successful reentry, and break intergenerational cycles of justice involvement.
