The evaluation assessed the program as of August 2021, when the program had enrolled 48 abusive partners, all of whom reported having experienced at least one form of trauma in their lifetime (e.g., experienced childhood abuse, were a target of community violence).

For many who are leaving incarceration and hoping to start anew, the current standards and practices hinder chances at success, not encourage it.

These Navigators work one-on-one with individuals to achieve their goals by connecting them with relevant providers. In addition to providing participants with service connection, the program is a leadership and training opportunity for the Navigators themselves, whose life experiences are instrumental in helping their community

The PRTs generated good will at these SJC sites. They bring diverse stakeholders together and engage them in conversations they would not otherwise have. But digging into the numbers shows a more complicated story. In fact, PRTs do not substantially reduce jail populations on their own.

An estimated 45% of American adults have had an immediate family member incarcerated for some period of time. Incarceration and interaction with law enforcement, even for a short period of time, disrupts and impacts the lives of individuals and their families and communities. The Osborne Association’s Harlem FamilyWorks program has worked to address these impacts and provide supports that improve familial and community relationships.

ISLG believes gender justice can strengthen society, and by centering the voices of women—particularly women of color and trans women—the city, state, and country can better achieve equitable solutions to social problems.

Support for bail reform has grown across the country, with many jurisdictions—in nearby states such as New Jersey and most recently in Illinois—enacting legislation to end or limit the use of cash bail. Research has shown that these types of changes do not negatively impact public safety.

The plan includes four goal areas, with each goal including specific implementation strategies and indicators for measuring success, all expected to lead to the results that characterize a highly effective, community oriented Public Safety organization at CUNY.

New evaluation findings show that Project Reset—a CJII-funded program that diverts people post-arrest to a community-based intervention—allows participants to avoid harmful collateral consequences and improves their views of the criminal legal system.

The CJII Training and Technical Assistance Initiative provides comprehensive and accessible capacity-building services to organizations across New York City that are furthering community safety. Doing so strengthens organizational sustainability, creates opportunities for peer-to-peer engagement, and deepens program impacts.

CIP has significantly expanded access to postsecondary programs across New York State, with many colleges and universities serving students at volumes near, or even exceeding, their targets.

ISLG’s evaluation of the CIP Initiative has sought to better understand implementation of CIP by documenting the CIP model over time, including: how programs are established and how they operate in correctional facilities, the challenges programs experience and how they navigate those challenges, and the successes programs experience in achieving the aims of the Initiative.
